Stockport Metros Organisation
Stockport Metros were established in 1976 for the purpose of organising tours on a 'multi-club' basis.Lacrosse Clubs whose players are currently participating are Stockport, Mellor, Poynton, Cheadle, & Norbury. In the past the Clubs of Heaton Mersey, Sale, Moorthorpe, Cheadle Hulme School, Stockport Grammar School have also been involved. A key person in the history of Metros is Mr Leslie Grainger, without whom the tour would never have started and its success is direct result of. A picture of 'Mr G' is shown on the left.
The constitution requires the Club 'to select, train, organise and fund junior overseas touring lacrosse teams' and 'to host, arrange games and provide entertainment for visiting junior and school lacrosse teams coming from overseas.
Since 1976 there have been thirteen U13/U15 tours to the USA, one U18 USA tour, and one U13 Belgium tour. From 1979 onwards the U13/U15 USA tours have been annual exchanges with Anne Arundel County, Maryland on a 'home & away' basis. Up to 1988 the tours were led by Leslie Grainger, thereafter by Tony Malkin till 2001, and for the 2002 tour by both Tony Malkin and Chris Livesey, with Chris taking from 2003.
The Lacrosse tour experience has been found to develop playing and social skills, providing in many cases lasting friendships. The regular exchanges with Anne Arundel Couunty have produced a tried and tested style and format upon which each future tour is based.
Annapolis Youth Lacrosse Association
The Annapolis Youth Lacrosse Association was created in 1992 for the purpose of forming a centralized youth Lacrosse organization in the Annapolis area. Focused on providing youth with the opportunity to compete at all levels of play, the organization has grown to be very successful. The AYLA Guidelines of Participation summarize the organization expectations, and exemplify the standards set forth by the initial AYLA Board of Directors.
